Strategies and Tactics for SEO
As a former SEO guy before going over to the dark side of pay per click, I really focused on finding keywords that generated traffic and ensuring our pages contained the key phrases. Content was an afterthought.
Now a few things have crystallized. Run a ppc campaign first before deciding which keywords to optimize. Optimize for the keywords you convert for and look for broad variations and create content around it.
Secondly, a quote I once heard applies to SEO and content.. If love makes the world go around, money greases the hub... translated means content may make the world go around, but SEO greases the hub. Writing articles or content for web consumption without an understanding of SEO principles is a waste of bandwidth. This concept applies to emerging media in that some emerging areas will require an optimized article written as a form of advertising similar to advertorial.

Demographic profiles of Youtube and Myspace
As part of the media mix I look for placing our client ads in specific topic level areas and places where our ideal customer hangs out.. when I look at specific topic level areas I am referring to search...when someone searches for pay per click, they are seeking pay per click. Demographics are the drivers when trying to find places to advertise. Research by Jupiter Research and iprospect:
Youtube appears to skew male. 28% of the men visit the site at least 1x per month compared to 12% for women.
68% of 18-24 year olds visited myspace.com over the past month vs 65% for Youtube and 42% for Facebook.
On a side note they mention at 90% of visitors to social networking sites, don't post. Its the vocal 10%.
